San Ramon, CA Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Section B7-1 states no person shall consume any alcoholic beverage in any quantity on any public street, avenue, boulevard, sidewalk, stairway, alley, thoroughfare, park, playground or other public facility within the city, and extends the ban to private driveways, stairways, doorways or other private property open to public view within fifteen feet of a public way, unless the property owner or person in lawful possession has given express or implied permission. Section B7-2 carves out three exceptions: the interior of any private dwelling or building; consumption of a duly prescribed and dispensed medication containing alcohol; and any playground, park or public facility for which the administering agency has issued a permit allowing possession and consumption.

The exception also covers city council-approved temporary use of public streets and appurtenant areas for events where alcohol possession and consumption has been authorized, meaning organizers of a permitted street festival or block party can serve alcohol within the permitted footprint without violating Section B7-1.
