San Ramon, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section B5-13 of the Municipal Code, in the parks and recreation use regulations, keeps wheeled recreation off any grassy area, path or walkway that the city has designated and posted exclusively for pedestrian use; a bicyclist may still cross that ground by walking the bike, but rollerskating, riding a bicycle or riding a skateboard across it is barred outright. The same section requires bicycles and skateboards to be parked where they will not trip other park users, and to be racked when a rack with open space is available.

San Ramon's dedicated skate facility, built along Bollinger Canyon Road, is designated a skateboard and in-line skate facility; bicycles are barred from that facility altogether except during an event the director has expressly authorized. Anyone riding or using a skateboard, roller skates, roller-blades or in-line skates at that facility must wear a helmet, elbow pads and knee pads, and the city is required to post notice of that gear requirement at the facility. Skipping the safety gear at the skate park is itself a Municipal Code violation, cited under the general park-regulations infraction provision in section B5-32 rather than under any separate skateboard-specific fine.

The rule sits alongside broader park vehicle and pedestrian-safety provisions in the same chapter, including the speed and equipment standards for motorized vehicles in park facilities under section B5-12.
