Brentwood, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

010(A) of the Brentwood Municipal Code lists the exact downtown sidewalks where bicycling, skateboarding, and roller skating are unlawful: both sides of First Street between Chestnut and Maple Streets, the west side of Second Street between Oak and Pine Streets, both sides of Chestnut Street between Brentwood Boulevard and First Street, both sides of Oak Street between Brentwood Boulevard and Second Street, the west side of Maple Street from Brentwood Boulevard to Second Street, and the south side of Oak Street from Second Street to its end, covering the core of the downtown business district.

Subsection (B) extends the ban to any public or private property, anywhere in the city, once the owner posts a sign prohibiting the activity in compliance with city specifications, at the property owner's expense; the city engineer is separately authorized under subsection (C) to post prohibition signs on other public property. Subsection (D) adds a citywide hazard rule: skateboarding or roller-skating on any public street in a manner that endangers the rider, a pedestrian, a bicyclist, or a motorist, or that impedes vehicle traffic, is unlawful wherever it happens, not just on the listed sidewalks. 020, bars anyone on a bicycle, skateboard, roller skates, or a toy vehicle from clinging to a moving vehicle or streetcar on any roadway.
