Cherokee County, GA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 42-56 of the Cherokee County Code of Ordinances, part of the Chapter 42 parks and recreation article adopted under Ordinance No. 2015-O-003 on June 16, 2015, permits use of bicycles, scooters, skateboards and skates in a county park or recreation facility only in areas the parks and recreation director or the director's authorized agent designates for that operation. Riding is not banned countywide; it is confined to marked zones within park boundaries so wheeled recreation does not conflict with playgrounds, athletic fields, walking paths or picnic areas.

A second requirement targets minors: no person under 16 may operate or ride as a passenger on a bicycle, scooter, skateboard or skates within a park or recreation facility unless wearing a helmet that meets or exceeds Georgia's impact standards for helmets. (with the director controlling hours at the Aquatic Center, Recreation Center, Union Hill Community Center and Waleska Splash Pad), Section 42-51 bars unauthorized motor vehicle operation off designated travel areas, and Section 42-52 restricts parking to marked spaces. None of these provisions reaches skateboarding or scootering on county roads, sidewalks or in commercial districts outside park property; the rule is limited to park and recreation facility grounds within unincorporated Cherokee County. Cities such as Canton and Woodstock enforce their own separate park and street rules for their jurisdictions.
