Cranston, RI Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Cranston Code of Ordinances § 12.12.090 flatly prohibits riding or otherwise using a skateboard on any public street in the city, there is no carve-out for low-traffic streets, business districts, or particular hours. The section sits in Chapter 12.12, Street and Sidewalk Use Regulations, next to the city's ban on riding animals or vehicles on sidewalks (§ 12.12.030). No penalty is written into § 12.12.090 itself, so a violation falls under the citywide general penalty at § 1.08.010: a fine of not more than $200.00, or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days. The ban applies uniformly across the city, including downtown and other commercial streets, it is not limited to any particular zone or district.
