La Grange, MO Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

City Code § 310.040 prohibits any person on roller skates, or riding in or by means of a coaster, toy vehicle, skateboard or similar device, from going upon any roadway in La Grange, with one narrow exception: crossing a street on a marked crosswalk. When making that crosswalk crossing, the section grants the rider all of the rights, and subjects the rider to all of the duties, that apply to pedestrians under the Traffic Code, meaning the same yield and right-of-way rules a walker follows at that crossing.

The only carve-out from the roadway ban itself is for a street the City Council has set aside by ordinance as a designated play street, where children's play activity, rather than vehicle traffic, governs the space. Because the rule sits in Chapter 310, Enforcement and Obedience to Traffic Regulations, it is enforced the same way as other traffic ordinances: officers of the Police Department, or officers assigned by the Chief of Police under § 310.010, are charged with enforcing all traffic laws applicable within the City.

The prohibition applies to roadways specifically, not sidewalks, so it does not by itself restrict skateboarding or roller skating on sidewalks or other non-roadway areas of the City.
