Ocala, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 46-233, "Games and sports," is in Chapter 46's Division 3, Recreation Areas. Subsection (a) bars any person from engaging in rough or potentially dangerous games or practice for them, listing football, baseball, softball, horseshoes, volleyball, tennis, and badminton by name, along with any practice or exercise involving thrown or otherwise propelled objects, balls, stones, arrows, javelins, shuttlecocks, model aircraft, skateboards, or roller skates, except in areas the director has specifically designed and set aside for that recreational use and subject to the director's reasonable rules and regulations.

Subsection (b) adds a separate, sign-based restriction: no person may play or participate in any game, sport, or recreation activity on city-used, maintained, or occupied property at any time a reasonably conspicuous, appropriately worded sign posted there prohibits that activity, regardless of whether the area is a designated recreation zone. Together the two subsections let the city both channel skateboarding and similar activities into set-aside areas and, through simple signage, shut down specific games at specific locations. Enforcement runs through police department officers and recreation and parks employees under § 46-3, and because § 46-233 carries no specific fine, a violation is punishable under the citywide general penalty at § 1-9: up to a $500.00 fine, up to 60 days imprisonment, or both, with each continuing day a separate offense.
