Portland prohibits skateboarding on most downtown sidewalks under PCC 16.70.320 but supports the activity through dedicated skate parks and approved street-level routes outside the central business district.
Portland City Code 16.70.320 bans skateboarding on sidewalks within the downtown core and other designated commercial zones, while permitting it on most residential streets and sidewalks outside that boundary. Skaters must yield to pedestrians and obey vehicle traffic rules when on roadways. The city operates Burnside Skatepark, Glenhaven, and several other dedicated facilities. Skate-stoppers on benches and ledges are common downtown. Schools, parking garages, and TriMet platforms are private/restricted property where skating draws trespass enforcement.
Skating in downtown's restricted zone, on TriMet platforms, or in posted private plazas can result in equipment confiscation, a citation, and removal from the area by Portland Police or private security.
