Riverside permits skateboarding on most streets and bike paths but restricts riding on downtown sidewalks, parking structures, and private commercial property where signs prohibit it.
Skateboarders share roadway and bike-lane rules under the California Vehicle Code, must yield to pedestrians, and need helmets if under 18 by state law. The Riverside Municipal Code restricts board, scooter, and inline-skate use on certain downtown sidewalks, around the Mission Inn, on plaza hardscape, and in posted parking garages. The Pat Merlo Skate Park and Bobby Bonds Park ramps offer dedicated space. UCR has its own campus rules limiting boarding in pedestrian quads.
Skating in a posted no-skate zone, riding without a helmet under 18, or damaging hardscape with grinds can lead to infraction citations and equipment confiscation.
