Corona, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Corona Code of Ordinances § 10.52.030 makes it "unlawful for any person upon or riding on or by means of a skateboard to go upon any right-of-way sidewalk or parking area in a business district or upon or around city parking lots and structures." The definition in § 10.52.010 sweeps broadly: a "skateboard" covers "all wheeled objects, regardless of motor, not classified as motor vehicles, motorized bicycles or bicycles," expressly naming roller skates, coasters, scooters and toy vehicles alongside skateboards, so the business-district ban reaches more than a traditional deck-and-wheels board.

Outside the business district, riders still answer to Chapter 10.52's other sections. Section 10.52.020 bars reckless operation "in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property." Section 10.52.040 requires yielding the right-of-way to pedestrians, animals, wheelchairs and motor vehicles, and § 10.52.050 requires staying close to the right-hand curb when riding on a roadway. Section 10.52.060 prohibits riding on any roadway or highway in the city between sunset and sunrise. Riding on someone else's property is prohibited under § 10.52.070 unless the property is designated for vehicular or pedestrian travel, or the rider carries the owner's written permission and produces it to a peace officer on request. Section 10.52.080 separately bans building or using ramps or incline devices for skateboarding on any public sidewalk or roadway.

These sections trace to Ordinance 1506 (1978) and remain unchanged in the current code. Because Chapter 10.52 carries no penalty clause of its own, violations default to the city's general penalty at Corona Code of Ordinances § 1.08.025: a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or both, unless the citing officer or City Attorney elects to charge it as an infraction.
