Santa Clarita, CA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

010 makes it unlawful to ride or propel a skateboard on any City road, street, highway, lane or alley that has a grade in excess of three percent, and separately caps skateboard speed at ten miles per hour on those same surfaces citywide, which includes downtown and business-district streets since the rule is not limited to any zone. 020 applies the identical three-percent grade limit and ten-mile-per-hour cap to roller skates and similar wheeled foot devices. 030 requires anyone skateboarding or roller skating, including in-line skating, at a City-owned or City-operated skateboard park to wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads at minimum.

040 carves out the areas where these activities are affirmatively allowed: roller skating, in-line skating, skateboarding, nonmotorized scooter riding and bicycling are permitted within designated areas, including the City of Santa Clarita Trail System and any skatepark the City owns and operates. 00 for a third or later conviction in that year. The grade and speed sections date to Ordinance 89-12 (1989); the protective-equipment and designated-area sections were added by Ordinance 98-17 in 1998 and amended by Ordinance 01-11 in 2001.
