Terrebonne Parish, LA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Sec. 19-10 makes it unlawful to skateboard or roller blade inside public buildings or in any area adjacent to or near their exterior, including hallways, foyers, stairs, ramps, handrails, landings or any other concrete surface nearby. The same ban covers skateboarding on public sidewalks in a manner that obstructs travel or the normal use of the sidewalk, and it specifically bans skateboarding and roller blading on the Terrebonne Bayou Walk and at the Downtown Marina regardless of whether it blocks anyone. "Public buildings" is defined broadly to include any immovable property or structure owned, operated or leased by the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, any political subdivision of the state, or any board, commission, agency or district created by state or local law, and the section specifically calls out the steps and annex of the Terrebonne Parish Courthouse as covered.

The parish administration may propose, but is not required to propose, that specific areas in or around public buildings be designated a "Designated Skateboarding Area"; the council must approve the proposal by resolution, and the area must be posted with signs bearing that exact phrase before skateboarding is allowed there. A conviction is punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to 30 days, or both, at the court's discretion. The current version of the section reflects amendments made through Ordinance No. 8131 in June 2012.
