Waterbury, CT Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

24 of the Waterbury Code of Ordinances, titled Riding on Sidewalk, prohibits driving, wheeling, parking or drawing any coach, cart, handcart, wheelbarrow, bicycle, skateboard or other vehicle whether of the same description or not, on any sidewalk or footpath in the city's streets or public squares. The rule groups skateboards with wheeled conveyances generally rather than singling them out, so the same sentence that bans riding a bicycle on a Waterbury sidewalk bans riding a skateboard there too. The section carves out two narrow exceptions: children's hand carriages, such as strollers and similar pushed conveyances, and bicycles that are drawn by hand rather than ridden, plus a general allowance to cross a sidewalk while going in or out of a driveway.

Because the prohibition is phrased as a flat riding ban rather than a permit or hours-based restriction, there is no application process or fee attached; compliance simply means using the street or another lawful surface instead of the sidewalk.
