Wellington, FL Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 14-21, Game and sport activity, sits in the Recreation division of Chapter 14 and covers both organized play and casual wheeled activity on park property. Subsection A separately restricts games involving thrown or propelled objects, like golf balls, javelins, or radio-controlled airplanes, to areas set apart for that recreation, and confines organized team sports such as football and baseball to designated fields or courts. Subsection B then addresses wheeled recreation directly: roller skating, roller blading, bicycling, skateboarding, and any other similar activity is prohibited on turf, basketball courts, tennis courts, and parking lots, and must be confined to areas the Village has specifically designated for it.

The rule protects both the playing surfaces, since a skateboard can scar a tennis or basketball court, and the safety of pedestrians and parked vehicles in a parking lot. Because the section names the specific surfaces where the activity is banned rather than banning it park-wide, a skater is in compliance on a paved path or plaza area that is not turf, a court, or a lot, unless the Director has posted that area as off-limits too. The rule reads alongside Sec. 14-3, which authorizes Wellington's Parks and Recreation Department employees to enforce the whole chapter and empowers the Village Council to adopt further rules governing park property and activities.
