Cheyenne, WY Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

Chapter 8.48 of the Cheyenne City Code puts the burden on building owners: all business buildings, a term covering hotels, apartment buildings, stores, restaurants, warehouses, factories, and their outbuildings, must be ratproofed and kept rat-free. The health officer inspects ratproofed buildings at least every 45 days and can order an owner to fix breaks or leaks in ratproofing, or order an occupant to start rat eradication. Owners who miss a notice deadline (minimum 15 days for ratproofing, 5 days for eradication) are in violation. Buildings with extensive rat harborage can be closed until abated, and unoccupied buildings can face condemnation after 60 days of noncompliance. Loose lumber, boxes, barrels, and similar debris must sit on racks at least 18 inches off the ground rather than piled on the ground where rats can nest.
