Rohnert Park, CA Public Health Rules: Syringe Disposal (2026)

41 (Camping on Private and Public Property) by Ordinance 969 in August 2022, provides that no person shall discard hypodermic needles in any public place, except in a designated container designed for disposal of sharps waste. The rule sits among a longer list of camping-related public-property restrictions in the same section, including bans on dumping gray or black water (subsection G), unpermitted electrical connections (subsection H), unattended fuel and combustible storage (subsection I), and open fires outside a fire-proof receptacle (subsection J). Because the needle-disposal clause is not limited to campers, it functions as a general public-place sharps rule: any needle left loose in a park, on a sidewalk, or on other city property outside a designated sharps container is a violation, whether or not the person discarding it is camping.

The code does not, in the text read, establish a city-run needle-exchange or harm-reduction siting program; it addresses only where used needles may be discarded.
