Jacksonville, FL Right to Farm: Agricultural Zoning Protection (2026)

The AGR district under Sec. 331(a)(1) permits agricultural, horticultural and forestry uses, including keeping farm animals and poultry, provided animal structures sit at least 25 feet from a property line and goats, sheep or swine stay 200 feet back. Dude ranches and boarding stables need 100 feet of separation for animal housing, and fur farms need 200 feet unless the building is soundproofed. Roadside stands are permitted only for products grown on the premises. Residential density on AGR land runs on a sliding scale in Sec.

331(a)(14): one dwelling unit per 100 acres on tracts of 640 acres or more, one per 40 acres on quarter sections, one per ten acres on parcels from 40 up to 160 acres, and one per two and a half acres on smaller lots, with a family homestead partition allowed for an immediate family member. Minimum lot requirements under Sec. 331(d) are 100 feet of width and two and a half acres of area; maximum lot coverage under (e) is ten percent; yard requirements under (f) are a 25-foot front, 10-foot side (25 feet combined) and 10-foot rear yard; and height is capped at 35 feet under (g).

S. Sec. 14' from the citywide noise ordinance under Sec. 105(c), and the fertilizer ordinance similarly exempts bona fide farm operations covered by the Right to Farm Act under Sec. 610, so long as fertilizer is applied under state Best Management Practices.
