Shelby County, TN Short-Term Rentals: Noise Rules (2026)

Under the county's Rules and Regulations of Short Term Rental Properties, all STR permit holders and their transient guests must abide by all applicable noise control restrictions of the Shelby County Code, Section 16-61 et seq., and the control of litter, debris, and garbage provisions of Section 16-137 et seq. This ties STR conduct to the county's general noise ordinance rather than a separate STR-only quiet-hours rule. To ensure complaints are addressed, the name and phone of the Responsible Party must be conspicuously posted inside the unit, and that party must answer calls 24 hours a day during each rental period.
