Montgomery County, VA Short-Term Rentals: Short-Term Rental Parking Rules (2026)

Sec 10-41(6) sets a flat parking rule for short term tourist rentals in the unincorporated county: parking for the rental has to be located in driveways and other designated, approved parking areas, and the parking of vehicles is prohibited in or along all rights-of-way and in yards. That means an operator can't direct overflow guest vehicles to park along the shoulder of the county road fronting the property, or scatter cars across the side or rear yard, even if the lot has room; parking has to stay on the driveway or on an area the county has specifically approved as parking for the rental. The rule mirrors the parking standard the ordinance applies to rural resorts and bed-and-breakfast-style lodging uses elsewhere in Sec 10-41, keeping guest vehicles off public rights-of-way for sight-distance and traffic-safety reasons. This standard governs only the unincorporated area outside Blacksburg and Christiansburg, which regulate short-term rental parking under their own town zoning codes.
