As of the current code, Richardson has not enacted a mandatory short-term rental registration system. Operators must comply with the hotel occupancy tax requirements under Chapter 12, general zoning standards under Appendix A, and all applicable building and fire codes. Texas House Bill 2127, effective September 2023, preempts some local STR regulations. The city may enforce nuisance, noise, and property maintenance standards against any property including STRs.
Failure to comply with hotel occupancy tax requirements may result in penalties. Zoning violations are enforceable through Code Enforcement.
