Grand Prairie's short-term rental ordinance (Chapter 29, Article IX, passed May 2022) defines an STR as any residential unit rented for 30 or fewer days for a fee, including homes, garage apartments, or backyard cottages listed on Airbnb, VRBO, or similar platforms. Operators must complete an online application, pay a $480 nonrefundable permit fee, submit a site plan showing parking spaces, and report previous year rental revenue. Permits must be renewed annually. Operators must pay a 7% hotel occupancy tax to the city by the 30th of each following month. Upon permit issuance, operators must hand-deliver notices to all neighbors within 200 feet. The city maintains a public map of permitted STRs.
Fines starting at $500 per day for operating without a permit. 7% hotel occupancy tax due monthly by the 30th.
