Mosinee, WI Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Sidewalk Repair (2026)

Chapter 70, Article III of the Mosinee Code of Ordinances places sidewalk maintenance squarely on the property owner. Section 70-73(a) makes it the abutting owner's duty to build, repair, construct and perpetually maintain the sidewalk along any street, alley or highway fronting the parcel, and to pay the entire cost of construction. The common council designates where sidewalks go by resolution, and no one may remove a sidewalk without council permission. Before doing the work, section 70-73(b) requires a permit from the city administrator at least seven days ahead of starting, unless the work is done under a city contract; the city charges no fee for that permit.

Section 70-73(c) sets detailed specifications an owner's contractor must follow: air-entrained concrete of six bags per cubic yard, residential walks five feet wide and at least four inches thick (six inches through driveway aprons), commercial and industrial walks at least eight feet wide and five inches thick, expansion joints every 40 feet, and curing for 48 hours in normal weather or 96 hours below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. If the common council finds a sidewalk unsafe, defective or insufficient, section 70-73(d) lets it order the owner to repair or replace it under Wis.

615; an owner who does not comply within 20 days of the statutory notice loses the choice, because the city then does the work itself and puts the full cost on the property's tax roll as a special assessment.
