Sedona, AZ Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Sidewalk Repair (2026)

130(B)(1) puts public sidewalks squarely on the city's side of the ledger: public city streets, including their landscaping, sidewalks, drainage and traveled way areas, are maintained by the city of Sedona. The section defines 'maintenance' as establishing requirements for work within the public right-of-way regardless of who actually performs it, gives the city engineer authority to set the level, method and frequency of that maintenance, and requires the engineer to publish a list of city-maintained streets and maintenance guidelines, updated at least once a year before May.

Those guidelines must spell out, at minimum, what city crews are expected to handle and what work adjacent property owners may take on themselves. 130(B)(3) makes adjacent or served property owners, individually or through an association, responsible for maintaining private streets, including the portion that extends into the public right-of-way to connect to a public street, though the city can still require a right-of-way permit for work touching that connecting segment. 090 separately requires whoever controls land abutting a sidewalk or street to keep it free of accumulated solid waste, encroaching trees, shrubs or brush, and other conditions that present a health, fire or safety hazard.

In practice, the city fixes the concrete and infrastructure on a public sidewalk, while the property owner next to it is still on the hook for keeping it clear of trash and overgrowth.
