Rio Rancho, NM Sign Regulations: Digital Billboards (2026)

Rio Rancho treats off-premises digital billboards as a distinct land use requiring a conditional use permit valid for 10 years, renewable by new application. Digital signs are allowed only on nonresidential property inside the city's Off-Premises Advertising Overlay Zone: five defined corridors including NM 528/Pat D'Arco Highway, US 550, Paseo Del Volcan, Southern Boulevard, and Unser Boulevard. Size is capped at 242 square feet (11 by 22 feet) with a 24-foot maximum height, animation and embellishments are banned, and each sign needs an automatic photocell dimming feature for night conditions.
