Ocala, FL Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

Section 110-181, in the off-site advertising division of the sign chapter, restricts off-site advertising signs, meaning billboards, to a specific named-street list and only where the property is zoned B-2, B-4, B-5, M-1 or M-2. Interstate 75 within the city limits is one of sixteen named corridors on that list, alongside U.S. Highways 441, 301 and 27, State Roads 40 and 200, and a set of named local arterials such as NE 36th Avenue and SE Maricamp Road. A billboard proposed anywhere else in the city, including most residential and lower-intensity commercial zoning even along I-75 frontage, is not a permitted use regardless of visibility to the interstate.

Beyond location, the off-site sign division layers on additional siting limits that apply to I-75 frontage the same as any other listed corridor: a 50-foot maximum height, a 378-square-foot face area cap, 30-foot street and 15-foot side/rear setbacks, and spacing of at least 1,000 feet between static or tri-vision signs on the same side of the road, rising to 2,500 feet between digital signs facing the same direction of travel. Any off-site sign within 150 feet of the Ocala International Airport is barred from being a digital sign under section 110-187, and signs may not sit in a utility easement, water retention area or buffer under section 110-190.
