Ocala, FL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Sec. 50-104, in Chapter 50's garage sale article, sets the only sign rule specific to garage sales in Ocala's Code of Ordinances: advertising for a garage sale is limited to three signs, none exceeding nine square feet in area. Residents may place those signs at any convenient location on private property, but the section flatly bars placing them on the public right-of-way. Because Sec. 50-101 defines a garage sale as a sale conducted only from a single-family residence or duplex, the three-sign, nine-square-foot allowance travels with that same eligible property and the Sec.

50-102 48-hour, twice-a-year sale window; a sign advertising a sale that does not qualify as a garage sale under Article III falls instead under Chapter 110's general sign regulations rather than this narrower rule. The building department, which administers Chapter 50 permitting and Chapter 110 sign enforcement, treats a right-of-way garage sale sign the same as any other unauthorized sign in the public right-of-way: subject to removal. Because the rule is tied to the residential garage sale use itself, businesses and commercial entities cannot rely on Sec. 50-104 to post sale advertising; only a qualifying resident's household sale gets the three-sign allowance.
