Clifton, NJ Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 259-7 of the garage sales chapter folds sign placement into the same permit scheme that governs sale hours and frequency: anyone holding a permitted sale under Chapter 259 must abide by the Sign Ordinance of the City of Clifton, which the editor's note identifies as Chapter 461, Zoning, Article IX, Signs. On top of following the general sign code, the garage-sale-specific rule adds two flat prohibitions that apply regardless of what the Sign Ordinance otherwise allows: no attaching a sign to a public utility pole, lamppost, public sign or similar structure, and no placing a sign within, or so it projects over, any part of a street right-of-way or other public property.
