Grand Prairie, TX Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 29-79 authorizes garage sales only with a permit obtained from the code compliance manager, limiting each property to two sales per twelve-month period, each running no more than three consecutive days, with no more than two cancellations allowed in that same year. Subsection (c) sets the sign standards: no more than six signs may be posted on any residential property or along the right-of-way, none exceeding five square feet in area, and none taller than forty inches. Every sign must carry the permit tag issued with the sale application, and none may go on a utility pole or in a median.

Signs cannot obstruct the view of vehicular or pedestrian traffic, and subsection (c)(1) requires the edge of each sign to sit at least three feet back from the curb or pavement edge. Subsection (c)(2) requires written permission from the occupant before placing a sign in front of or alongside any occupied residence other than the seller's own. All signs must come down immediately once the sale ends. The permit itself is free and available online under subsection (e), and the sign stickers issued with it must be affixed to each sign before it goes up.
