Jurupa Valley regulates garage sales under Municipal Code Title 5, Chapter 5.40 (Garage Sales) and treats garage-sale signs as temporary signs under Chapter 9.248. Signs may be posted only during the permitted sale dates, must be on private property with owner permission, and must not be affixed to utility poles, traffic signs, or placed in the public right-of-way.
Garage, yard, and estate sales are governed by Title 5, Chapter 5.40 of the Jurupa Valley Municipal Code. The garage-sale framework Jurupa Valley inherited from Riverside County (Ordinance No. 593) limits the number of garage sales a household may hold per 12-month period and restricts duration to a small number of consecutive days. Garage-sale signs are temporary signs subject to Chapter 9.248: they may be posted only on private property (with owner consent) for the duration of the sale and must be removed promptly when the sale ends โ generally the same day. Posting on utility poles, traffic signs, streetlights, or in medians/parkways/sidewalks is prohibited; the City and franchise hauler (Burrtec) routinely remove abandoned weekend signs from poles and rights-of-way. Signs may not obstruct sight lines at intersections or driveways.
Posting signs in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, on traffic-control devices, or leaving signs up after the sale ends triggers abatement under Title 9 sign enforcement. Repeat violators may face administrative citations under the City's nuisance-abatement framework. Holding more sales than permitted in a 12-month period also violates Ch. 5.40.
