Kirkwood, MO Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Kirkwood Code of Ordinances § 17-77 governs garage, estate, moving and yard sales together with their signage. A qualifying sale cannot run more than two consecutive days, and the same premises cannot host more than two such sales in a calendar year; a neighborhood or joint resident sale still counts as only one sale toward that limit. Only items normally found in or around a home may be sold, and bringing in new or consignment merchandise for the sale is prohibited. The sign rules sit in the same section.

A host may place up to four directional signs off the sale property, each capped at two feet by three feet, plus one additional sign on the property where the sale is held. Signs cannot be attached to utility poles or to other public signs, and any sign on private property needs the consent of that property's owner. Kirkwood does allow signs in City rights-of-way, but only if the Kirkwood Police Department determines the placement creates no traffic hazard; the Police Department can remove a sign that conflicts with the ordinance on its own authority, without the placer's permission. on the last day of the sale, so a two-day Saturday-Sunday sale must have its signs cleared by Sunday afternoon.
