Loveland prohibits placing any signs - including garage-sale, yard-sale, or estate-sale signs - in public rights-of-way or on public property under UDC Section 18.04.08. Signs may not be attached to street lamps, street signs, traffic signs or signals, hydrants, trees, shrubs, fences, or utility poles. Off-premise signs are subject to removal by Code Enforcement. Garage sales themselves are regulated under LMC Chapter 5.44.
Loveland's sign code (Title 18 Unified Development Code, Section 18.04.08) prohibits all off-premise temporary signs in the public right-of-way and on public property. Garage-sale, yard-sale, estate-sale, and moving-sale signs may not be placed on city street lamps, street signs, traffic signs or signals, hydrants, trees, shrubs, fences, or utility poles - the same attachment ban that applies to political and commercial signs. Garage-sale signs must be located on the same private property where the sale is being conducted. Off-premise directional signs in the public right-of-way are subject to immediate removal by Code Enforcement. The garage sale itself is regulated under LMC Chapter 5.44 (Garage Sales) under Title 5 Business Licenses and Regulations; signs that exceed the duration of the sale period authorized under Chapter 5.44 are also a violation. The City advises pulling signs down at the close of the sale and not stapling or nailing signs to public property. Banners on stakes, banners attached to fences and homes, and flying banners or feather flags are also not allowed under UDC 18.04.08.
Off-premise signs in the public right-of-way are removed by Code Enforcement under UDC 18.04.08. Sales operating outside the LMC Chapter 5.44 framework are also a code violation. Report at 970-962-2522.
