Oregon, OH Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Oregon's sign chapter treats garage, estate and yard sale signs as a category of temporary sign permitted citywide. 05(b)(8) caps each sign at four square feet and limits the total display period to fifteen days per calendar year, whether that's used for one sale or spread across several. 04(f) as one of the listed allowed temporary sign types, homeowners don't need a separate sign permit for a single yard sale placard, but they still have to follow the placement rules that apply to every sign in the City.

04(b) bars any sign, apart from specifically exempted ones, from being placed on or above the public right-of-way, meaning a garage sale sign can't be staked in the tree lawn, on a road shoulder, or on a median. Any sign that does end up in the right-of-way, garage sale or otherwise, may be removed by the City immediately with no notice period, unlike the abatement notices used for other code violations. 03(l). Because the fifteen-day limit applies per year rather than per sale, residents who hold multiple sales need to track cumulative sign-display days to stay compliant, and a sign left up past that window, or one placed off the seller's own property, is out of compliance with the sign code even though the underlying sale itself isn't separately licensed.
