Sedona, AZ Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

B(1), Temporary Signs, Residential Districts. Subsection (1)a allows up to four temporary directional signs when a property owner opens the property to the public for a residential or nonprofit activity such as a real estate open house, garage or yard sale, or estate sale. Of those four, a maximum of one sign may sit on the seller's own property, and up to three more may be placed off-site, with no more than one sign allowed per turning movement so drivers are not confused by stacked signage at a single intersection.

The signs can only be displayed 12 times a year total. , cannot exceed three square feet in area or three feet in height, and cannot be illuminated. They may be placed in City right-of-way in residential districts, but never attached to trees, fences, utility poles, light posts or street signs located in that right-of-way, and they need the property owner's written permission if placed on private land that is not the seller's own. Signs must be sturdy enough to survive wind and weather, so cardboard boxes, poster board and paper are barred, and no balloons, ribbons or loudspeakers may be attached.

Charging any fee for placing an off-premises sign is prohibited outright, and the Code specifies these residential temporary signs may be used only for wayfinding, not general advertising.
