In unincorporated St. Lucie County, garage or yard sale signs are exempt from a permit under LDC 9.04.00 as long as they are removed by sunset of the last day of the sale and are kept out of the public right-of-way.
St. Lucie County's sign code exempts garage and yard sale signs from permitting under LDC 9.04.00(H), provided they come down by sunset on the sale's final day and do not otherwise violate the chapter. Like all temporary signs, they must sit wholly on private property (LDC 9.01.02) and may not be placed in or over a public right-of-way or attached to utility poles, street lights, curbs, or fire hydrants under LDC 9.03.00(F). The sale itself is a temporary use limited by LDC 8.02.00 to no more than two sales of three days each per site per calendar year. Signs may not be illuminated. Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce set separate sign and garage-sale rules within their limits.
Garage-sale signs left up past sunset of the last sale day, or placed in the right-of-way or on poles, are prohibited signs subject to removal by St. Lucie County and Code Compliance action.
