Wyoming, MI Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Sec. 90-703 of the Wyoming, Michigan Zoning Ordinance lists the signs "specifically exempt from the permit requirements" of Article 7, provided the sign sits outside the public street right-of-way and does not block sight distance. " That last limit ties back to the home-occupation rules elsewhere in the code, which likewise cap garage sales at six calendar days per year. Because the exemption applies "per premises," a household cannot post a second sign at the same address, and because the sign must be "on-premises only," it cannot be placed at a street corner, a neighbor's yard, or any other property away from the sale itself.

The exemption removes the need to apply for a sign permit under Sec. 90-702 and pay the associated fee, but it does not remove the underlying limits on size, timing and placement; a sign that runs bigger than six square feet, stays up longer than one business day past the sale, or exceeds six sale-days for the year falls outside the exemption and becomes a standard, unpermitted temporary sign subject to removal.
