Holiday decorations and seasonal displays are allowed without a permit in Anchorage. Displays must not obstruct sight triangles, block rights-of-way, or create fire or noise hazards.
Anchorage has no ordinance regulating residential holiday decorations or seasonal displays. Inflatables, string lights, lawn ornaments, and projection displays are permitted on private property without permit. General rules still apply: displays may not extend into the public right-of-way, may not block the intersection sight triangle (AMC 21.07.060), and may not exceed noise limits (AMC 15.70) with amplified music after 10:00 PM. Outdoor light strings should use UL-listed outdoor rated cords and GFCI-protected outlets during Anchorage winters. HOAs and covenants (common in Hillside and Eagle River subdivisions) may impose stricter rules. Commercial holiday displays on storefronts follow the sign code but temporary seasonal window decorations are exempt from permitting. Live Christmas trees after the holiday should go to the AFD Christmas tree collection event held each January rather than curbside.
