Temporary political campaign signs up to 35 square feet are exempt from building permit requirements per the Anaheim Municipal Code if removed within 120 days of erection or 30 days after the relevant election, whichever comes first. AMC Section 4.04.130 prohibits placing any sign β including political signs β on or within any public right-of-way. Signs may not be affixed to curbs, telephone poles, utility poles, lamp posts, traffic or parking control signs, hydrants, bridges, trees, bus shelters, or any other object in the public right-of-way. Political signs on private property are generally protected under the First Amendment and California state law. The city cannot impose unreasonable restrictions on the content or timing of political signs on private property. Signs must not obstruct sight visibility at intersections or driveways.
