Bellevue, WA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Bellevue permits political signs on private property subject to Land Use Code Chapter 20.30G (Sign Code) with First Amendment protections. Political signs in single-family residential zones may be up to 6 square feet per sign face with no total cap on number, but must be on private property with the owner's consent. In multi-family and commercial zones, signs up to 32 square feet may be allowed. Signs cannot be placed in the public right-of-way (street medians, public parks, utility poles, traffic signs) under BCC 14.30 and are subject to immediate removal without notice. Washington State law (RCW 42.17A.555) prohibits use of public resources for political campaigns, which limits sign placement on public property. Political signs may be posted up to 60 days before an election and must be removed within 10 days after. Signs blocking traffic sightlines at intersections or driveways are prohibited regardless of content. Violations are civil infractions with fines up to 100 dollars per sign.
