Chino Hills regulates political/election signs in Development Code Section 16.38.046. Signs may be up to 8 sq ft each in residential zones (32 sq ft elsewhere), no more than 5 feet tall (8 feet elsewhere), capped at 32 sq ft per residential property. They go up no more than 45 days before an election, down within 10 days after.
Election-season (political) signs in the City of Chino Hills are governed by Section 16.38.046 of the Development Code's sign chapter (Chapter 16.38, Signs). The city does not regulate the content (copy) of these signs. By size, a political sign may not exceed 8 square feet per sign in residential zoning districts or 32 square feet per sign in all other zoning districts. By height, a sign may be no taller than 5 feet in residential zoning districts or 8 feet in all other zoning districts. In residential districts, the total combined political signage on a property may not exceed 32 square feet. As to timing, a political sign may be posted not more than 45 days before an election and must be removed within 10 days after the election. Because political and yard-sale signs are specifically excluded from the city's Temporary Single Exhibition Event Sign permit process, no event-sign permit is required for them. General temporary-sign placement rules in Chapter 16.38 also apply: temporary signs may not be illuminated, may not be erected within any street intersection or clear sight triangle, may not be nailed or affixed to any tree, fence post, or city public utility pole, and may not be placed in the public right-of-way, the city parkway, or on city-owned land.
Political signs that exceed the size or height limits, exceed the 32 sq ft per-residential-property cap, are illuminated, are posted in the right-of-way or on prohibited public structures, or remain up more than 10 days after the election are in violation and subject to removal and code enforcement.
