Fontana, CA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Fontana's sign regulations, consistent with First Amendment protections and California Elections Code 5, allow noncommercial and political signs on private property subject to content-neutral size, placement, and duration limits. Typical rules cap residential political signs at approximately 6 square feet in area and limit them to the yard of the property owner or authorized tenant, placed outside required sight-triangles at intersections and behind the front property line. Larger signs are generally prohibited in residential zones. Signs may not be placed on utility poles, street trees, medians, parkways, traffic signs, or any public right-of-way and may be removed by the city without notice. Commercial zones allow larger signs but still require placement on private property with owner consent. Signs must typically be removed within a short period after the election, commonly 10 days, and may not be illuminated in ways that create glare.
