060(M). The 32-square-foot cap applies per candidate or per ballot issue, per site, so a property can display several signs if each addresses a different candidate or measure and none exceeds the area limit. Timing is tightly controlled: a sign cannot be erected before the filing deadline for candidacy closes, and it must be removed within 14 days of the election. Candidates who advance past a primary get an extension, keeping their signs up until 14 days after the following general election. Placement is restricted in three ways.

First, campaign signs cannot be attached to fence posts, trees, or utility poles on public property, though on private property they may be attached to a fence post or tree if the property owner consents. Second, no political sign may be erected on public property or within the public right-of-way, which covers street medians, parkways, and sidewalk strips the City controls. Third, signs cannot be placed in a way that creates a hazard, such as obstructing a driveway or building exit, or creating a visual distraction through color, glare, or a shape that could be mistaken for a traffic control device. 060(M)(5) authorizes the Director to have the remaining signs removed at the candidate's expense.
