Clovis, CA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Window signage in Clovis is covered by two overlapping provisions in the sign chapter. 100(E), the general development standard, allows signs only on ground-level and second-story windows, requires them to be painted or mounted on the inside of the glass, and limits total coverage, permanent and temporary combined, to 25 percent of any one window's area. It also requires the lowest 24 inches of every window to stay clear of signage so security personnel retain a clear sightline into the business. A separate clause in that same subsection lets a 'temporary sign' (a special-sale, change-of-management, or similar paper sign) cover up to 50 percent of a single window, or 50 percent of a group of windows, provided the total temporary sign area does not exceed the permanent sign area allowed for that building elevation.

060(S) then exempts a narrower category of non-illuminated temporary window signs, sale announcements, price signs, and management-change notices designed to be seen from the parking lot, sidewalk, or street, from the sign permit process altogether. That exempt category is held to a stricter 25 percent cap on window area and a hard 30-day maximum display time, after which the sign must come down or be replaced with a new permit review. 040.
