Port St. Lucie regulates residential signage in Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) Chapter 158. Small yard signs, security signs, and real estate signs are generally permitted without permit; political signs protected by First Amendment with content-neutral size and duration rules.
Residential zoning districts allow one non-illuminated sign per parcel not exceeding 4 square feet in area and 4 feet in height without a permit. Typical permitted signs: house number, security system, no trespassing, garage sale (time-limited), contractor (during active work), real estate for-sale signs (removed within 7 days of closing). Political signs are protected speech and permitted 60 days before election through 7 days after; size limits apply content-neutrally. Illuminated signs and electronic message boards prohibited in residential zones. HOAs may impose stricter rules superseding city permissions. Commercial advertising signs, including vehicle advertising parked prominently, prohibited on residential lots.
Unpermitted oversized signs: $100-$250 first offense. Illuminated residential signs: removal required. Political signs left beyond 7 days post-election: $50-$100 per sign.
