Camarillo, CA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 17.04.090(K) sets the baseline rule for every zone in Camarillo: one temporary window sign per building frontage is allowed without a sign permit, as long as it does not exceed six square feet or twenty-five percent of the area of the single window it's displayed in, whichever number is larger. Window signs are one of the sign types Section 17.04.050(A) exempts from permitting altogether, along with political signs, real estate signs, and construction signs, because the city considers them minor and not worth a review process.

Commercial zones carry their own, more detailed limit. Under the commercial-zone sign table at Section 17.04.110, the window sign item caps window signs per business at no more than twenty-five percent of the total window area on each building frontage, with a minimum size of eight and one-half by eleven inches per sign, roughly a sheet of paper. That table applies on top of, not instead of, the six-square-foot baseline for signs outside a commercial zone; the code's own cross-reference in Section 17.04.090(K) directs commercial-zone businesses to the separate commercial standard rather than the flat citywide number. The definition in Section 17.04.020 excludes merchandise window displays and incidental signs, such as 'no trespassing' notices, from counting as window signs at all, and any window sign painted directly on the glass exterior must be sealed to protect it from damage or defacement.
