De Pere, WI Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 14-113(9) is the city's only supplemental rule aimed specifically at window signs, and it sets a placement standard rather than a coverage percentage. Subsection (a) requires a window sign to be applied directly to the interior surface of the glazing, or hung inside the window so all mounting hardware and equipment stays out of view, and it flatly prohibits signs attached to the exterior of a window. Subsection (b) treats any neon sign displayed indoors as a permanent window sign and limits a business to one neon sign per street frontage, so a business fronting two streets could run two, one per frontage, but not stack multiple neon signs on the same glass.

Because the section is folded into Article XI's general list of supplemental sign-type standards, a window sign still falls under the article's broader permit and construction rules where those apply, including the sign inspector's authority to review, license sign installers, and enforce compliance under § 14-114. The ordinance does not carry a separate exemption for temporary paper window signs (sale banners, event notices) inside a storefront; the interior-mounting and single-neon-sign rules of § 14-113(9) apply to whatever is displayed on the glass. There is no numeric cap on how much of a window's surface a sign may cover written into this section, and no other passage in the zoning ordinance's sign article supplies one for window signs specifically.
