Rock Hill, SC Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

4(E) of the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Rock Hill defines window signs as those in commercial zoning districts, or commercial areas of mixed-use or planned zoning districts, that are painted on or affixed to the inside or outside of the glass so as to be fully visible from off the property. The total area of exempt window signs must not exceed the area allowed for permitted wall signs on the same facade, or 50% of the window area, whichever is less, and the exemption is not meant to let prohibited sign types, such as flashing signs or lights, be placed in a window to draw attention to the business.

The section adds two specific limits: the business name and other identifying information placed on a window counts toward the business's wall sign allocation rather than sitting outside it, and window signs are not allowed to be placed on spandrel glass at all. 4, Signs Exempt From Permitting Requirements, no zoning sign permit is required to install one unless it is illuminated, in which case an electrical permit is required under the same section's general rule for exempt signs. 3(D)'s standards against glare and beams directed off-site toward the main-traveled way of the street.
