Warren, MI Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

28 sets three separate coverage limits for signs placed on, in, or around a window, on top of any other applicable zoning requirements. Non-illuminated window signage cannot exceed 50 percent of the window where it is placed. Illuminated window signage, a category the ordinance specifically extends to rope lighting installed on the inside of a window, is held to a tighter 25 percent limit. Total window signage of every kind combined cannot exceed 50 percent of the window. Read together, a business can fill up to half a storefront window with static, unlit signage, but if any of that signage is illuminated, no more than a quarter of the window can carry it, still within the overall 50 percent ceiling.

14(c), which bars exterior rope lighting visible from the right-of-way outside of temporary lighting and government signs. Ordinance No. 30-1029, section 9, adopted September 26, 2017, added these percentage caps to the sign ordinance.
