Milton Code of Ordinances Sec. 14-39(a) sets the core no-knock rule for the city's direct sellers, defined in Sec. 14-31 to include peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants. except by appointment, from calling at any dwelling or place displaying a sign reading "No Peddlers," "No Solicitors" or words of similar meaning, from calling at the rear door of any dwelling, or from remaining on a premises after being asked to leave by the owner, occupant or other person with authority over it. The same section layers on conduct rules: sellers cannot misrepresent the quality, quantity or character of goods, the purpose of the visit, or their own or their organization's identity, and a charitable-organization seller must disclose what percentage of the sale price actually goes to the charitable purpose.

No direct seller may claim an exclusive right to a street location, hold a stationary spot, or operate in a way that impedes or inconveniences public use of the streets, with a police officer's good-faith judgment on congestion treated as conclusive. Loud noise or sound-amplifying devices audible beyond a 100-foot radius to attract customers are barred, as is allowing rubbish or litter to accumulate around the seller's business area.
