Milton, WI Parking Rules: EV Charging (2026)

Milton's zoning code treats vehicle charging as an accessory land use rather than a separately permitted or licensed activity. Sec. 28(3) defines "Electric vehicle charging" to include all indoor and outdoor charging facilities for electric and hybrid vehicles, typically accessory to on-site parking, off-site parking, driveways, or indoor parking facilities, and the land use table treats it as permitted in every zoning district listed in Chapter 78, from single-family residential through industrial and agricultural. The regulations attached to that section require charging equipment to be designed and located so it does not impede pedestrian, bicycle, or wheelchair movement or create a safety hazard, and require the equipment to display posted information on voltage, amperage, use, fees, and safety.

Stations must be maintained in working order, with a phone number or other current contact posted on the unit so problems can be reported. A residential-use limit follows: in any residential zoning district, a charging station cannot be operated as a commercial venture and is restricted to use by residents and their guests, closing off the possibility of a pay-per-use public charger in a single-family neighborhood.
