Piscataway, NJ Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 4-3.11 of the Township Code states that no person shall solicit, canvass or otherwise perform any activity described in § 4-3.2, the chapter's broad definition of door-to-door selling and canvassing, except between 9:00 a.m. and sunset, and that ringing doorbells of private residents for that purpose after sunset is prohibited outright. The rule sits inside Chapter 4's Solicitors, Canvassers and Itinerant Vendors licensing scheme, so it binds even a licensee who has already paid the § 4-3.4 fee and obtained the § 4-3.5 badge; holding a valid solicitor's license does not extend the hours or authorize an after-dark doorbell ring.

Section 4-3.7 puts enforcement in the hands of any Police Officer, who is duty-bound to stop and identify solicitors seen working and to require production of the license, which lets an officer act on an after-sunset doorbell complaint without waiting for a separate report. The Township adopted an identical hours-and-doorbell rule for street hawkers and peddlers at § 4-2.4, so the 9:00 a.m.-to-sunset window and the after-dark doorbell ban apply Township-wide to essentially every form of unsolicited door-to-door or street-corner selling activity, not just to one category of vendor.
